Welcome to my little corner of the weband thank you for taking the time to visit my online store.
The clickety click of knitting needles and the hum of my mum's old Singer sewing machine was the soundtrack to growing up at home as a child. My mum made our clothes and knitted our jumpers, for all six of us. I would say my love of making things and creativity comes from her.
I studied surface design and printed textiles at Glasgow School of Art. I have had many creative jobs before setting up Clarabella on a rickety sewing machine in 2007, window dresser, set designer, prop maker to name a few. I have grown my business as my kids became more independent.
This is my collection of homewares, accessories and clothing called 'Hometown'. Inspired by the architecture I see from my studio window. My design studio is in the oldest building in Dunfermline, the 16th century Abbot House or 'Pink Hoose' as it is know, in the heart of the historic quarter.
My prints are all digitally printed on high quality materials and depict the many beautiful and diverse architecture of my hometown.
I use natural fibres and GOTS certified fabrics and inks. I operate a zero waste studio, all my offcuts are either patchworked into beautiful 'one off's' which appear in store or are made into accessories. I often team up my new prints with vintage fabrics, mixing the old with the new , this is a joyful way for me to work and is a consious exercise on balance and sustainability.
All my homewares are made my hand in my studio. Clarabella clothes are made by hand in Fife by a small team and are handfinished in the studio by me.
